Ladson-Billings to be featured as expert on education, equity at 'Cap Times Idea Fest'

July 14, 2017
UW-Madison's Gloria Ladson-Billings will be featured as an expert on equity and education during the "Cap Times Idea Fest."

Ladson-Billings holds the Kellner Family Distinguished Chair in Urban Education and is a professor with the departments of Curriculum and Instruction, Educational Policy Studies, and Educational Leadership and Policy Analysis.

Ladson-Billings is perhaps best known for her book, “The Dreamkeepers: Successful Teachers of African American Children,” which was first published in 1994 and continues to be used in teacher education programs around the country. Ladson-Billings’ groundbreaking work on culturally relevant pedagogy and critical race theory centers on examining the practices of teachers who are successful with African American students.

Ladson-Billings in December was elected the next President of the National Academy of Education.  Her term will begin in the fall of 2017 and will last four years.

The "Cap Times Idea Fest" is a two-day event on Sept. 16-17, composed of around two dozen panel sessions. The theme of the festival is, "Reach a Better State." Each session will feature prominent voices on various topics.

Tickets for the weekend are $50 for the general public and $20 for students.
