Raul is the first recipient in the history of his department, and the first Latino male at EMU to receive the award.

Vallejo Memorial Award for Emerging Scholarship awarded by the Multicultural/Multiethnic Education (MME) Special Interest Group (SIG) of the American Educational Research Association (AERA). Dr. Charleston will receive the award  in April in Washington, D.C.
